In 2022, Galena Pharma was looking for an easy-to-use emissions calculation tool to calculate the carbon footprints of various products. The solution to this need was the OpenCO2net carbon footprint platform, which has supported Galena’s climate work for several years. Initially, Galena utilized the OpenCO2net tools for product design and carbon footprint calculations in accordance with the ISO 14067 standard. OpenCO2net’s experts reviewed the calculations and verified their accuracy.
With an OpenCO2net business user license, Galena gained access to all the tools on the OpenCO2net platform as well as the comprehensive OpenCO2 emissions database. This allows Galena to use calculators for both product-level and company-level emissions calculation and monitoring.
In addition, Galena has utilized the opportunity to use emission factors from the ecoinvent database in its calculations. Ecoinvent is the world’s most comprehensive life cycle database, and OpenCO2net can provide its customers access to the emission factors they need.
Galena’s first Scope 1–3 emissions calculation was based on 2021 data and done in accordance with the GHG Protocol standards. The calculation has been repeated annually since then.
