About a year ago, Sako wanted to calculate and determine the Scope 1–3 GHG emissions from its own operations. To assist with the first and seemingly daunting round of calculations, the company turned to the experts at OpenCO2net. Sako’s greenhouse gas emissions for 2024 were calculated using OpenCO2net’s company-specific emissions calculator, utilizing up-to-date emission factors from the OpenCO2 emissions database.

The next step was to determine how the emissions calculation could be repeated using 2025 data while ensuring that the results would be comparable. The decision to carry out the emissions calculation as part of the “Calculate and Learn Yourself” project was made, with the first year’s calculation serving as the basis. The 2024 calculation was copied as a template for Sako’s credentials to await the calculation date. In addition, the project included calculation support from OpenCO2net experts.
The emission factors selected in the previous year make the next calculation round quick and easy. The previous year’s calculation is replicated for the following year with the click of a button. OpenCO2net’s emissions calculator ensures that all updated emission factors are replaced with the latest ones in the calculation. The user simply needs to update the changed figures in place of the previous year’s numbers.
For 2025, more accurate source data was obtained from suppliers and OpenCO2net experts assisted in updating the calculations and selecting more precise emission factors. In addition, the collected source data was reviewed during the consultations, and the final results of new calculations were verified.
