Diesel oil, Finland, Finland
The OpenCO2 emissions database is one of the most comprehensive emissions databases in Europe. Our experts select and validate all emission factors added to the OpenCO2 database and keep them up to date.
By creating a free account on the OpenCO2net platform, you can view approximately 1,200 emission factors with background information. If you would like to use all of our approximately 8,000 emission factors, please contact us or purchase OpenCO2net subscription.
Background of emission factor
Diesel is a significant energy source for transport and industry. It is refined from non-renewable natural resources and releases carbon dioxide when burned, which accelerates climate change. The emission factor for diesel accounts only for the fossil carbon content. In calculating the emission factor, it is assumed that the fuel also contains bio-based components.
Emission factor category
The emission factor for fuels shows how much emissions are caused by burning the fuel. Carbon dioxide emissions occur when the carbon in the fuel combines with oxygen during combustion. Most global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by burning fossil fuels (coal, natural gas and oil).
