Plywood, birch, uncoated (A1-A3), Finland
The OpenCO2 emissions database is one of the most comprehensive emissions databases in Europe. Our experts select and validate all emission factors added to the OpenCO2 database and keep them up to date.
By creating a free account on the OpenCO2net platform, you can view approximately 1,200 emission factors with background information. If you would like to use all of our approximately 8,000 emission factors, please contact us or purchase OpenCO2net subscription.
Background of emission factor
The emission factor for plywood indicates the carbon dioxide equivalent emissions per cubic meter of production. It is influenced by factors such as raw material sourcing, the energy sources used in manufacturing, and transport distances.
Emission factor category
A product’s emission factor indicates either life cycle emissions (cradle-to-grave) or emissions from production (cradle-to-gate). The correct emission factor depends on the type of calculation being made. Cradle-to-grave is commonly used for consumer products, while cradle-to-gate is often more practical for business-to-business cases, especially for raw materials. The cradle-to-gate emission factor is, for example, applied in industrial companies’ scope 3 calculations when assessing emissions from raw material purchasing. A product’s carbon footprint also often includes only the cradle-to-gate stages, in which case it is referred to as a partial carbon footprint.

| More information | Density 680 kg/m3. Density 680 kg/m3, moisture content 8%. Plywood is made from thin wood veneers by gluing. The thickness of an individual veneer is between 0.2 and 3.2 mm. There is usually an odd number of veneers in birch plywood (at least three). The adhesive is usually weather- and boil-resistant phenol formaldehyde resin. There are several EPDs available for plywood products manufactured in the Nordic countries. However, some of the results are outdated and are being currently recalculated. Proposal for uncoated birch plywood is an average calculated based on the values given in EPDs by Koskisen and MetsäWood.Standard used: EN 13986+A1 Wood-based panels for use in construction.
